Isn’t it refreshing when attention is brought to that wet, wonderful liquid of life that we so often take for granted? This Saturday, March 22, marks World Water Day, a UN-sponsored initiative tasked with spreading awareness of the reality that millions of this world’s inhabitants lack clean drinking water. NYC participates with a number of events, including special programs — in addition to their stellar exhibit, H20=Life — at the American Museum of Natural History, a walk inspired by the multi-mile daily trek some people must endure to find fresh water, and an optional $1 charge for tap water at select restaurants, proceeds of which translates into 40 days of clean water for one person.

This dork recommends you do your part by abstaining from buying bottled water. Plastic bottles from bottled water clog our landfills and help destroy the environment — including the water sources — around the plants where they are produced, often in third world nations. NYC has some of the best tap water in the world! So grab your Nalgene and sidle up to a tap near you!
