In 1948, Judy Garland and Fred Astaire waltzed down the avenue — Fifth Avenue, to be exact — in their Sunday best in the classic movie musical Easter Parade. Times, they have a-changed: the current incarnation of the stylish Bunny Day stroll is less about dapper frocks and silky ascots and more about the wackiest hats a head can hold. On Easter Sunday, March 23rd, from 10am to 4pm, the maddest of hatters head to the Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival. Feathers, sparkles and construction paper reign over midtown for a day as parade-goers meander down Fifth. Less an organized parade than a spectacle, there is no feasible excuse for idly standing by as an observer. Get out your hot glue gun and get in on the action!
The Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival takes place on Easter Sunday on Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th streets. Click here for pics of last year’s creations.
